Week 14 Story: I know what you did

Image
Sneaking into the window, I saw a shadow and knew I was screwed. I pulled myself into my room, head down, ready to take my punishment. Weirdly my bedroom light did not flick on with urgency and suddenly I was scared. If one of my parents wasn’t in my room, who was? All of these thoughts rushed through my head as I fumbled to turn on my phone’s flashlight. I pulled it up and turned towards the shadow, illuminating my little brother. “What the heck are you doing in here?” I scream whispered. I was very aware I had just been caught sneaking back into my room, but also I was pissed. The question was rhetorical, as I could see my brother had found my secret stash of money and was trying to hide that by shoving it in his pocket. “What the heck are you doing sneaking out? I am so telling mom” he responded. “You can’t tell mom, I just caught you stealing! And I am in my room, you have no proof that I was ever not.” I could tell I had stumped my little brot

(Fox,  Wikimedia Commons ) There was a man who found a snake under a stone. He let it loose and the snake said he must eat the man or he will starve to death. The man said that the snake owed him because he had freed the snake. They decided to let 3 passerbys decide. The first was an old horse whose owner was sending it away for his hide, he sided with the snake. The next was an old dog whose owner kicked him out because he could no longer work. That was 2/3 but the man convinced the snake to wait for the last. Finally a fox arrived. The snake explained the situation, but the fox did not seem to understand no matter how he explained. The snake eventually wedged himself back under the stone to show the fox what had happened. With the snake trapped, the fox and man left. The fox claimed the man now owed him 2 chickens for his help so they went to the man's home. The man's wife said there was no reason to waste good chickens on a fox and went out and put their dog in a bag. T

Famous Last Words: what to do

Image
This week’s reading was interesting. I was not a huge fan of the Celtic Tales and because of that, the story writing was not the easiest to come up with. I did really enjoy the extra reading about floods and it was cool to explore that further through the Wikipedia trails. My best writing this week was probably on a story I have been working on personally. I have always thought it would be cool to write a novel, and when I was younger I tried to a lot more, but lately I have been trying to start again. I think it is probably terrible and will never be shown to anyone but it is fun to dream and nice to try. I am always impressed when people try poetry or prose and so that definitely influenced my story telling this week. My other classes are killing me. I am taking Anatomy and physiology 2 and I want to die thinking about that class. I think the professor is really mean and intimidating and I need to go to his office hours but even the thought of that makes me want to drop

Review Week 13

Image
Ikolam ,  Thanksgivingday PaDikOlam I decided that for the end of the holiday week, I would do my review holiday themed which is why I picked the PaDikOlam. It is cool seeing how our holidays connect to other cultures. I also watched the Charlie Brown Christmas clip because Charlie Brown Christmas is my family's favorite Christmas film. This dance scene is great, but for anyone who has not seen the whole thing, you are really missing out. Also when Linus says "and they were so afraid" it is the cutest and funniest thing in the whole world. Please go watch it now. I probably will.

Wikipedia Trails: From Floods to Prose Edda

Image
(Flood,  NPS ) Flood Myth I chose to start with floods after doing my extra reading this week over them. I think it is cool that themes go through different cultures and storylines, even if those people weren't alive at the same time or would have met. The flood myth is one of these because there are so many version by so many peoples. I grew up with the biblical Noah and the Ark so to read about the other versions is very cool.  Outburst Floods After reading an overview of the myths, I went and read about the historical accuracy of them. I always thought of them as strictly false, but reading about the great floods that have happened, I could see how people might think it was the end of the world, or that the flood was larger than it seemed because they had no way of knowing it did not cover the entire earth without today's technology. Bergelmir I went back to the flood myth page after outburst floods to stay in the mythology world and found one of the myths. Th

Tech Tip: Canvas Dashboard

Image
(Personal Photo) I played around with my dashboard for this tech tip. I took the color overlay off at first, but then I realized I could color code the color overlay to match my planner and I did that and I think it will make everything a lot easier. Also, I changed the names of my class to be simpler so it is faster to click on what I want. Canvas can be annoying at times, but these tech tips definitely help make it more user friendly.

Learning challenge: Happiness Jar

Image
(Positivity Jar,  Flickr ) This is something I have been thinking about doing for a while, but never seem to remember. For this week, I am going to make a real effort to follow through on this because I think it will help this stressful time of the year. Also, I have been thinking about buying a 5 minute journal, which are centered around gratitude, happiness, and growth and I think this exercise will be a good way to know if they are worth it. I think that it is important to find happiness everyday, but we all get a little caught up in life and forget sometimes so hopefully this will help. The game plan is to do it right before I go to sleep and I have set up the jar and paper to make it as easy for me as possible.

Growth Mindset: Life after college

Image
I graduate in December so something I have been thinking a lot about lately is what I am going to do in my life. It is a big question and very overwhelming but applying growth mindset to it is helpful, I believe. No matter what I chose to do with the rest of my life, it is important to not think of this section of the growing part, and the rest the living. I get so caught up in getting to something (graduation, a job, moving) that often I forget about just being where I am. Growth mindset can help that because it is all about seeing everything as a progression and building blocks. You can always get better and you should always strive to learn more. I hope as I decide who I want to be and what I want to do, I can remember that.  Image information: Job button,  Max Pixel

Creator made wooden people were flooded and their descendants are monkeys.  After, the creator made men out of cornmeal. Creator made bad humans, not humans' fault. After the canoe is built, the god floods the earth. The chosen man and his family survive. Back on land, the god tells the chosen one he cannot make a fire. Week 13: Celtic Tales B

There was a man named Ivan who needed work so he left his wife at home and went to find elsewhere. He arrived at a farm and worked for a year. At the end of the year, the farmer said that he could pay Ivan his 3 pounds, or give him advice. Ivan was hesitant but ended up taking the advice. The farmer told Ivan "Never leave an old road for a new one." Ivan agreed to work for another year and at the end the farmer gave him the same option.
