There was a man who found a snake under a stone. He let it loose and the snake said he must eat the man or he will starve to death. The man said that the snake owed him because he had freed the snake. They decided to let 3 passerbys decide. The first was an old horse whose owner was sending it away for his hide, he sided with the snake. The next was an old dog whose owner kicked him out because he could no longer work. That was 2/3 but the man convinced the snake to wait for the last. Finally a fox arrived. The snake explained the situation, but the fox did not seem to understand no matter how he explained. The snake eventually wedged himself back under the stone to show the fox what had happened. With the snake trapped, the fox and man left. The fox claimed the man now owed him 2 chickens for his help so they went to the man's home. The man's wife said there was no reason to waste good chickens on a fox and went out and put their dog in a bag. The fox took the bag and ran back to its den, when it arrived it opened the bag and out sprung the dog and ate the fox up.
