Extra Reading: Crash Course Mythical Places

Trees!!!

My favorite part of this video was the information about Odin and Norse stories. I am a big Marvel fan and so hearing names and places that I knew was fun! I wish that sometimes the Marvel stories included more of the originals like the tree of life that survives raganarok.

The Daphne and Apollo story was also really entertaining. The fact that Daphne was so disgusted that she rather be a tree than be with Apollo was funny but also kind of sad, especially since it was applied that he assaulted her even as a tree. It was also interesting to me to read about Cupid in this context since I read a story about him and Psyche earlier in the semester.

Growth Mindset: Life after college

I graduate in December so something I have been thinking a lot about lately is what I am going to do in my life. It is a big question and very overwhelming but applying growth mindset to it is helpful, I believe. No matter what I chose to do with the rest of my life, it is important to not think of this section of the growing part, and the rest the living. I get so caught up in getting to something (graduation, a job, moving) that often I forget about just being where I am. Growth mindset can help that because it is all about seeing everything as a progression and building blocks. You can always get better and you should always strive to learn more. Reading Notes: Cupid and Psyche A

I read the first half of cupid and psyche for this reading. It was so good and I recommend it to everyone. The story is a story within a story. It begins with a man named Lucius who has been turned into a donkey and is stuck with a band of robbers. He witnesses a kidnapped girl being brought to the camp. The kidnapped girl was preparing for her wedding when she was stolen and was overcome with grief. An old woman who travels with the robbers tells the main story in this story to comfort her. The story is about the youngest princess, named Psyche, in a family who is a beauty unlike any other. People across many nations begin to worship her for her beauty and this upsets the goddess Venus. To get her revenge, Venus sends her son Cupid to screw up Psyche's life. Meanwhile, no one was marrying Psyche so her father went to an oracle to tell her fortune. The oracle tells a dark tale about the girl's life and gives them directions to put her on a cliffside. They are grief-stricken b...

Week 8 Reading and Writing

I like the reading and writing assignments, although sometimes it is difficult to think of a story and make it long enough. I have a hard time adding lots of details and imagery. I am happy with my blog and project website. I know they are kind of basic but I think they are more user friendly and streamlined that way. I definitely need to add more to my project but I am glad to be doing the portfolio. I think it allows for more freedom. My biggest accomplishment is just keeping my motivation at all this semester. It has been a tough semester and this class is the one who seems to lose out the most. My favorite reading so far has probably been the different tales. I really like the short and sweet stories that leave a message. I do feel like the notes help me form a storyline and I use the same reading strategies but I feel like they work for me.  I chose this image because I really enjoyed writing the story connected and also it is a puppy and kitten.  Looking for...
